Paul M. Coury – Chairman – Coury Group, Coury Properties, Inc., Coury Collection Renaissance Construction. With a diverse background in all areas of commercial and residential real estate, Coury has honed in on his passion: giving new life to historic buildings, transforming them into upscale luxury boutique hotels. Coury’s beginnings in the luxury hotel market started in the mid 1990s, providing consulting services to hoteliers and reconditioning several properties around the U.S. His passion for the industry grew even stronger when he took on the challenge of purchasing and renovating a dilapidated, yet architecturally striking building in downtown Tulsa, the Ambassador Hotel. Investing $5.5 million in renovations, the transformation was a success, and today the Ambassador Hotel is the city’s finest luxury boutique hotel and is listed with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Given the hotel’s consistently high occupancy rate, it became quite clear that travelers want a unique and personalized experience, with high-quality products, services and dining.
With this in mind, Coury pursued his ambition to resurrect other historic buildings where he could deliver impeccable quality and services to discriminating hotel guests. This venture lead him to the historic Colcord building in Oklahoma City. With an amazing façade and prime location, Coury saw the potential for this property to be revamped into a stunning high-end boutique in the heart of the city. He acquired the property and poured $15 million into transforming the site into the renowned, glamorous hotel that exists today. The overall feel and design of the hotel is the result of his personal touch. As he states, “A good developer has to design and market their properties themselves.”
His quickly established reputation in the market created demand for his personal touch to turn around faded properties in need of a more hospitable feel. In 2008, a group of investors approached Coury about acquiring the historic Ashton Hotel in Fort Worth. The group was impressed with his upfront, honest and hands-on style. Coury became an investor and is managing the hotel. A major renovation is under way implementing Coury’s own design vision. The hotel has already seen a significant increase in its occupancy and rate.
Recently added to The Coury Collection portfolio is the historic Price Tower in Bartlesville, OK, designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The multi-use building offers seven floors of hotel suites. Impressed by Coury’s reputation with historic hotels, the owners called on the Coury Collection to remodel and manage the Price Tower Inn. Today, guests experience an upgraded dining experience and more luxurious accommodations with the finest modern amenities.
Numerous other projects are in the works for the Coury Collection, with growth planned in the Midwest. The Coury Collection is utilizing several resources for marketing and driving premium occupancy for all of its existing hotels.
Coury Group – The Coury Group is comprised of the Coury Collection, a line of high-end boutique hotels located in the Midwest; Coury Properties, Inc., a commercial real estate investment company comprised of property management and leasing; and Renaissance Construction, a boutique builder of high-end residential homes and commercial tenant build-outs.
Coury Properties, Inc. – Coury Properties, Inc. is a full service real estate investment advisory firm. While management, leasing, brokerage and investments in real estate matters are our primary functions, service is the foundation of our business. This is the way it all started when Paul Coury founded the firm in 1985, and this is the way it still is today. Through the years we have observed significant changes in the real estate industry. While we, too, have considerably expanded the breadth and depth of our services, we are proud of what has not changed at Coury. Our objective remains the recognition, creation and enhancement of value, and we continue to believe in the principles and business philosophy that have served our clients so well in the past.
Coury Collection – It takes a special vision to see the full potential of an outdated and unproductive property, and where it could be taken in the future. With the right combination of foresight and experience, Paul Coury uses his keen ability to see a diamond in the rough and transform it into a gem. Coury has a proven track record turning around distressed properties. He has overseen more than 30 redevelopment projects, plus provided asset management services for a $150 million hotel and golf course portfolio spread across the US. |
